Higson Bespoke was established in 2017 by Charlie Higson.
Charlie has always been fascinated with carpentry, it started out at a young age making skateboard and bike ramps for himself and friends. It then quickly developed into spending long evenings and weekends in his parents garage making pieces of furniture.
At school, his passion grew as he started to excel in his Design Technology and woodwork classes, receiving awards and accolades throughout his school years. After leaving school he began to work on refurbishing properties, guided by a skilled time-served carpenter and family friend. Using these years to not only hone in his carpentry but to also expand his skill set into other areas of construction and refurbishment.
With a degree in Architectural Technology from Brighton University, received with Distinction – Charlie took the plunge and set up a property refurbishment company in 2010. Along with a small team, including another skilled craftsmen Steve (who still works with Charlie now), his company undertook 100’s of projects throughout Sussex, from Loft Conversions to Kitchen Extensions.
However as the business and its reputation grew Charlie found himself more often ‘off the tools’ and stuck at the end of a phone all day – a distance away from where he wanted to be…. Hand making pieces of furniture and cabinetry.
Therefore, with the support of his wife Holly and his family, in 2017 Charlie took the bold move to end this business and start a new one. Learning from the previous company he wanted to make sure this new company would allow him to return to his passion of handcrafted woodwork. Higson Bespoke was born!
Now, located in a beautiful converted barn workshop in the heart of the Sussex Downs you will find Charlie, Steve and occasionally Wilson the Labrador, working away on handcrafted wardrobes, kitchens and furniture.
Steve joined the team in 2014 as a carpentry Apprentice and since then has gained a wealth of knowledge and skills. He is the true perfectionist and has a great eye for detail and styling.
Our wise-beyond-his-years member of the team. If not found snoozing in the workshop office, he will no doubt be playing in the muddy puddles scattered across the local farm.
We have and continue to invest heavily in the best equipment and tools, ensuring our working practices are as efficient as possible and what we produce is the highest quality.
